Go Big or Go Home in Nome, New Mining Technology

Message from Thomas O. Palmer

Thought you may be interested in some of the new technology that is appearing in Nome this summer, 2013.  The days of the little dredge operator may well be numbered.

Phoenix Marine has the spud barge and Pacifica has five of the elevated Trackhoes with wash plants.  The Spud Barge simply jacks up the barge to clear all the waves during times of bad weather and the Elevated Trackhoe just drives up on shore when bad weather comes, otherwise thay are mininig 24/7.

  1. It was bound to happen - just a matter of time - now that there are designated mining tracts you can either go slow-bell or work 24x7 - its all up to a roll of the dice... show me the gold!

  2. Wendy - suggestion - post pictures in large format, i.e. highest resolution - which will auto hyperlink from a small (thumbnail) to large full resolution picture which are interesting - you never would go back to regular TV after watching HiDef 1080 digital... continuing with small low resolution pixs will turn off your readers faster than you can say COLD ICE.

  3. I've heard of a "surf crawler" working the beaches in Nome. Any details or pictures to share?

    1. The Surf Crawler is an excavator with tracks that contains a wash plant to process beach sands and gravels for metals, i.e. gold. It is reported to work in 9 feet of water so I'm wondering if it has a snorkel for the diesel engine or does the depth refer to how far out the excavator can reach? Can anyone help with details and pictures. Thanks.
